As CEO of Delta Care Rx, Mary Mihalyo, PharmD, BCPS, has revolutionized how pharmacy benefit managers provide quality, effective, competitively priced pharmacotherapy solutions to hospice and palliative care patients.
She also has helped educate and train a generation of pharmacists, having served since 1998 as an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at her alma mater, the Duquesne University Mylan School of Pharmacy, Pittsburgh, PA. As a professor of pharmacy, she participates in both didactic and experiential teaching with a focus on pain management and hospice and palliative care.
A pioneer in medication therapy management services for hospice providers, Dr. Mihalyo has built a corporate culture at Delta Care focused on transparency, excellence, patient-centered quality care, education and support for hospice clinicians, and unyielding customer service. Her motivation in helping form Delta Care was to create an advocate for pharmacist support for hospice clinicians at the bedside while ensuring sustainable relationships between local hospice providers and community-based pharmacies.
In her volunteer work, Dr. Mihalyo uses her knowledge and experience to support the underserved within her community and the mission of community-based hospice. She is the Founder and President of the Board of Directors of the Therapeutic Connections Charitable Pharmacy, a not-for-profit charitable pharmacy located in Steubenville, OH, whose mission is “to meet the pharmaceutical care needs of the uninsured, underinsured, working poor and low-income elderly individuals and families of Jefferson County, Ohio.”
She is a member of the Board of Directors and volunteer pharmacist for the Ohio Valley Health Center in Steubenville, the mission of which is “to provide high-quality health care to uninsured and underinsured individuals and families in the Ohio Valley, regardless of their ability to pay.”
Dr. Mihalyo received her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the Duquesne University Mylan School of Pharmacy. She is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS), and she is a licensed pharmacist in the States of Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
Dr. Mihalyo is a frequent speaker to national, regional and state hospice and palliative care conferences, often advocating for the vital role of clinical pharmacists working collaboratively with hospice and palliative care clinicians to ensure quality, effective pharmacotherapy interventions at the bedside. Dr. Mihalyo also publishes frequently in clinical and academic journals in collaboration with esteemed peers.
She resides in Steubenville, Ohio, with her husband, Andy. They are the proud parents of two sons and a daughter and have one grandson.
